Important Jail Policies and Procedures:
Inmates at the Preble County Jail are encouraged to have visitors unless the inmate is serving a weekend sentence. They are required to submit a Jail Request Form, listing a maximum of 4 individuals that they wish to visit. Each inmate is allowed one visit per visitation day and a maximum of 2 visits per visitation week.
Visitors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, unless they are the legal spouse of an inmate. Proof of guardianship may be requested. No personal items with the exception of keys and/or photo ID are allowed into the Sheriff’s Office. The keys and ID will be secured in a locker during the visitation. No contact visits are permitted except for visits with attorneys or clergy. Visitors must also be signed in no later than 15 minutes before the end of the visitation period.
Conversations in visitation may be monitored and recorded.

Mail is delivered to the Jail Monday through Friday, except on holidays. Only mail sent via the US Postal Service is accepted. All incoming mail will be opened and inspected for contraband and money orders. Legal mail will be opened in front of the inmate. Inmates are allowed 5 letters, 5 photos, and 5 greeting cards in their possession. Any excess will be placed in the inmate’s locker.
To deposit money to an inmate’s commissary account, family and friends can send money orders via the US Postal Service. Cash may also be deposited using the kiosk located in the Jail’s lobby. Personal checks, payroll checks, etc. will be placed with the rest of the inmate’s property. They cannot be used for purchasing items from the commissary or for posting bail.
