Inmate Search in Garrett County Jail
The Garrett County Jail does not have an available list of inmates incarcerated in their facility. The State of Maryland, however, supports the Victim Information and Notification Everyday system, so you can visit the site to check and receive notifications on the custody status of an offender. It’s recommended to visit the Jail personally at 311 East Alder Street, Oakland, MD or call them at for inquiries.
The Detention Center was originally constructed to house 22 inmates. Due to the increase in the inmate population it was expanded to house approximately 64 inmates, which includes accommodations for 8 females and 4 juveniles. Inmates can be held in our facility who are sentenced to not more than 18 months. The head of the Jail Facility is James Tichnell.
Important Jail Policies and Procedures
One should be sure that they are part of the visiting list of an inmate before they can visit them. In certain circumstances such as when an inmate first enters prison or is transferred to a new prison, a visiting list might not exist yet. In this case, immediate family members who can be verified by the information contained in the inmate’s Pre-Sentence Report, may be allowed to visit. However, if there is little or no information available about a person, visiting may be denied. You should always call the prison ahead of time to ensure your visit will be permitted.
Wear clothing that is appropriate for a large gathering of men, women, and young children. Wearing inappropriate clothing (such as provocative or revealing clothes) may result in your being denied visitation.
Because many people are usually visiting, it is important visits are quiet, orderly, and dignified. The visiting room officer can require you to leave if either you or the inmate is not acting appropriately.
Sex Offender Search and Lookup
All registered sex offenders are registered on either a national or state sex offender database. The people on these databases have been convicted of a sex or kidnapping crime. The definition of a sex offender is a person convicted of a crime involving sex, including rape, molestation, and production or distribution of child pornography.
You can access this information online for Garrett County by going to this link, but bear in mind that searches sometimes reveal primary last known addresses or, rather the block that they live on. You are also required to accept a disclosure to use the database.
Bail and Bail Bondsman
As a Defendant, you may post bail yourself, have someone over 18 years old post it on your behalf, or use a bondsman. The person posting bail for you assumes responsibility for your financial court responsibilities. If you fail to appear as required, a warrant will be issued for your immediate arrest and the bail will be forfeited. Maryland allows the following bail options. Cash bail, property bail, intangible assets, credit or debit cards, and professional bail bondsman. A bail bondsman will require a non refundable fee to post bail. In addition to the fee, the bondsman sometimes requires collateral or property to secure their trust and post your bail on your behalf. Collateral will be returned to the bondsman who posted it after disposition of the charges and all court appearances are met. The service fee and collateral received must be displayed on the bail bond form. A lawyer is not required to post bail but it is always smart to retain legal advice.
