The Sheriff's Office is now taking applications for the 2018 Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is an eleven-week program designed to give the participant a basic knowledge of how your police department operates. Instruction will be presented by police officers from the sponsoring agencies. Participants will have an opportunity to shoot a police-issued handgun and tour the county jail. The sessions are informal and questions are encouraged.Participants are also encouraged to go on patrol as a “Ride-Along” to witness first-hand the police officer’s work on the beat.
Each weekly session begins promptly at 6:30 pm, and lasts until 9:30 pm. Even though class time is set aside for questions, most instructors are also available after class to answer more in-depth or personal questions.

The Rock Island County Sheriff's Office gives our sincere condolences to the family of Richard F. Fisher, who passed away during the early morning hours on 11-15-17. Captain Fisher was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff with the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office in March of 1969 and retired in May of 2012 after serving for 43 years. During his career Captain Fisher held the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Chief Deputy. Captain Fisher worked in several capacities including Chief Investigator, Patrol Commander, Administrative Captain, Jail Administrator and as the Chief Deputy. Captain Fisher was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy Class 185.

Isaias gentle personality will be missed by all of us here at the Sheriff's Office. Isaias was born on December 24, 1942 in Hidalgo, TX, the son of Gilberto and Anita (Aveldano) Ayala. He married Angie Terronez on April 14, 1961. Mr Ayala worked 34 years for International Harvester and retired from Navistar in Ohio. He worked as a bailiff for Rock Island County for 20 years.
